I came across a youtube video showing a way to peel potatoes I had never seen before. At first I was really confused because I only saw the demonstration done in Chinese but then I was happy to find one in English which was much easier to follow along with. The overall concept is to peel a potato without a knife or peeler.
First, the potato, completely intact, gets boiled in water on the stove. Then, it is immediately put into a bowl of ice water. Once it is removed, it is miraculously able to be peeled just by pulling on the skin. I can't decide if I like this idea or if it's kind of pointless and just done for entertainment value. Personally, I like old fashion peeling besides when I get a little cut on my finger. You can take a look and decide which method you prefer. Just note that I have not tested this approach and it may not work as well as in the movies.

I'd have to agree with you here. I hink this method would only work if you actually wanted your potatoes boiled. My mom makes homemade french fries (most of the time) and we peel our potatoes with a knife. then slice them and then deep fry them. There is no boiling involved. I guess you could boil them and then fry them, but I don't know how that would taste. If i ever try this potato peeling method, it would be just to try it.
This is probably the most amazing thing I have ever seen! I can't wait to try this! This sounds like the easiest way to make mashed potatoes with no skins. Mashed potatoes are my favorite food on the face of the earth and when I make them for my family they always request I peel them (I prefer red potatoes with the skins on). I will most definitely use this.
I'm not going to lie... I had heard you talking about this process, and watching it still amazed me. I just can not seem to understand how this works, but I definitely would like to try this someday. For now I'll stick to my knife until that time comes.
wow, that was amazing. I've never heard of anything like this. I can see how people would like it due to less work that needs to be put into the whole peeling process. I definitely want to try this at some point. I feel that potatoes are meant to be peeled with a knife not by boiling so I don't think this will become a habit. It's a pretty cool shortcut though!
